Country information
France is very “farmer-friendly” because it aims to mainatin a high quality of life in the countryside. With regard to dairy farming, there are good opportunities for family operations, particularly in the regions of Normandy and Brittany. The mild climate with sufficient rainfall is particularly good for dairy farming. To the north of the Paris line, and just below the city of Paris, there are beautiful, large parcels of arable land. A bit more centrally, there are also areas with good cereal operations. However, France is a relatively bureaucratic country, so during the purchasing process, several authorities have to be consulted before the purchase can become final. Also the impossibility of freely selling and buying milk-quotas continues to put a restriction on the potential for growth at present.
